Khaos Purposes is a Gothic Metal project from Santo Ângelo, Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil, created in 2021 by baritenor vocalist and multi-instrumentalist songwriter Arthur Lacau. The project is known for operatic metal vocals that blend baritone resonance, tenor extension and brightness, and a distinctly androgynous head voice timbre, resulting in a unique hybrid style within the genre. Combining atmospheric arrangements, dark aesthetics, and emotional intensity, Khaos Purposes explores themes of introspection, duality, and transcendence while merging classical influences with modern metal soundscapes.
Marcelo Mutley Ortmann has been the official drummer and producer of Khaos Purposes since its inception, recording and producing the band at Síncope Escola de Bateria e Estúdios since 2021, his studio located in the city of Santo Ângelo. In 2024, Guilherme Machado joined Khaos Purposes as lead guitarist and contributed rhythm guitar recordings to “Under the Moon” on the 2025 EP Slumber Night. The EP’s title track also features a special guest appearance by Arthur’s brother, Gabriel Lacau, who performs the operatic baritone vocals in the chorus, contrasting with Arthur’s clean backing vocals in a triumphant brotherhood of voices that evokes the primordial cosmic Khaos described in ancient Greek mythology — the concept that inspired the band’s name. The song unfolds as a melancholic open letter in search of liberation through sleep, figuratively delivered by the hands of the night itself in the lyrics, and visually represented on the EP’s cover art by a Nephilim, a mythological creature from the Holy Bible, extending its hands toward a woman who pleads to heaven in an expression of faith, under the gaze of a full moon on a strangely sunlit day.
